A teenage goalkeeper who moved 3,000 miles to pursue football at Millfield in Street has earned her first England futsal call-up. Ash Hughes, 17, has been selected for under-19 camps in October and November.

Ash previously represented Bermuda before switching international associations to pursue an England pathway. The decision meant giving up the chance to continue representing Bermuda, without any guarantee of England selection.

She has since attended three England football camps and progressed through Bristol City Women's youth teams. After joining the under-16 side in 2023, she made her under-21 debut aged 16.

Futsal is five-a-side indoor football played with a smaller, less bouncy ball. Ash's longer-term ambition is to play professionally in the Women's Super League and represent England.
