Can Josh Jacobs still be suspended? What to know after Packers RB's return

The Green Bay Packers got back one of their key offensive playmakers in Week 7. But questions remain about his future availability.

Running back Josh Jacobs made his 2026 debut against the Detroit Lions on Oct. 25 after spending the first six weeks on the commissioner's exempt list. Jacobs, who faced two misdemeanor charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend in May, is still the subject of an ongoing NFL investigation.

Here's everything to know about Jacobs' situation, from a timeline of events so far to what further discipline the veteran running back could face, if any:

Josh Jacobs court case timeline

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs, right, appears in a Brown County courtroom on Sept. 10, 2026 in Green Bay, Wis., with his attorney Clarence Duchac III.

When did Josh Jacobs return from his suspension?

Jacobs returned to action on Oct. 25 for the Packers' Week 7 game.

Jacobs spent the first six weeks of the season on the commissioner's exempt list as the league investigated the running back following his arrest and misdemeanor charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend. The NFL announced in a statement the week prior that it was removing Jacobs from the exempt list on Monday, Oct. 19.

Will Josh Jacobs be suspended again?

The six weeks the veteran spent on the exempt list match the length of a standard suspension for a domestic violence case, according to the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and NFLPA. Jacobs' time on the exempt list can count toward a possible suspension retroactively if the league decides to impose one after its investigation concludes.

So far, it is unclear whether Jacobs will face further discipline from the NFL. The league has said the running back is still under investigation for a violation of its personal conduct policy following his arrest, misdemeanor charges and plea deal, even after his return from the exempt list.

The league is still seeking to obtain video evidence of the altercation between Jacobs and his ex-girlfriend to determine its severity. The NFL could impose a longer suspension if its investigation concludes it is necessary. Jacobs would have to forfeit salary he earned while on the exempt list and remain unpaid throughout any formal suspension.

If the NFL moves forward without the video or can't obtain it, that could affect the decision on the length of any future suspension.
