The New Orleans Saints defeated the Cleveland Browns 23-22 in overtime on Sunday at the Superdome.

The win snapped a three-game home losing streak and improved the Saints’ record to 3-5 on the season. They’re now tied with the Carolina Panthers for first place in the NFC South Division.

Here’s what we learned from the game:

Tyler Shough delivered in the clutch

The Saints’ second-year quarterback struggled for much of the game, but he came through when the Saints needed it most, leading the offense to touchdowns on its final two drives of the day.

His 15-yard touchdown pass to Juwan Johnson proved to the game-winning score in overtime. It capped an 11-play, 84-yard touchdown drive to open the overtime session.

Shough’s 33-yard strike to Chris Olave set up the Saints’ go-ahead touchdown and give the Saints a 16-16 lead in the final minutes of regulation.

On the final two series, Shough was 8 for 11 for 92 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 8 yards on a scramble. He now has five game-winning drives in 17 career starts.

Jordyn Tyson had a quiet debut

The long-awaited debut of first-round draft pick Jordyn Tyson was a rather inauspicious one. After missing the first nine games because of a hamstring injury, the rookie receiver finally saw his first NFL action and finished with four catches for 30 yards in limited reps.

Tyson got his “Welcome to the NFL” moment out of the way early. He lost a fumble at the end of his first career reception, when Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger punched the ball out near the goal line after a 9-yard catch.

The running game improved

The bye-week changes to the running game paid dividends.

Audric Estime added a much-needed spark in his first game since being claimed off waivers from the Browns, rushing for a team-high 72 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.

Estime’s efforts helped a Saints ground attack that amassed 160 yards on the ground. It was their second highest rushing total in a game this season.

In a physical, defensive slugfest, the Saints proved to be the better rushing team on this day.
