Ismaelo Ganiou’s absence gives Lens manager defensive headache ahead of Champions League tie

There was concern surrounding Ismaelo Ganiou when he was withdrawn over the weekend with a knee injury. The worst fears haven’t been realised for the France international, who will, nonetheless, miss RC Lens’ UEFA Champions League encounter against Club Brugge on Wednesday evening.

As per a report from L’Équipe, tests on Monday revealed that Ganiou simply has bruising on his knee. It is possible that he will feature against Paris FC over the weekend, but he will play no part in tomorrow’s Champions League game. Jonathan Gradit, who has missed the last two games with a muscular injury, is also a doubt, leaving Yannick Cahuzac with limited options in defence.

Both Samson Baidoo and Jean-Clair Todibo are yet to reach peak fitness, too. The former is returning from a long-term injury. The lack of options could see Lens opt to start Matthieu Udol, a wing-back by trade, as one of the three centre-backs.
