Keith Andrews is aspiring for another ‘Big Six’ scalp against Liverpool.

The Brentford boss is in charge of one of only three unbeaten Premier League sides. The Bees have drawn 2-2 with Bournemouth and Aston Villa and 1-1 with Leeds United and Sunderland.

The team’s two triumphs both involved games with traditional top teams: a 3-0 thrashing of Tottenham on the opening matchday was followed the next month by a 3-0 win over Chelsea.

·‘We’ve shown we can compete against the best’

Brentford now look forward to the visit of the Reds, who were in midweek action in Austria against LASK. Andrews’ players deservedly took three points from the same fixture at the GTECH Community Stadium last October in a 3-2 victory, and he hopes for a similar outcome here.

"We have really good options; it's difficult picking the team. The main message to the group is that it's a long season. We’ve got games coming where the squad will get tested. If we want to achieve a really special season, we’re going to need everybody.

"We try to play with an edge and competitive nature. When we are on that edge, we are a really good side. There’s a real honesty with our group that always gives you a really good chance in what is a really competitive league.

Belief without overconfidence

"The nature of our fanbase and the connection that we have, we want to create a place where it is not particularly nice to come to. The fans have been amazing this season. The energy they bring pre-game is very much appreciated by the players.

"It’s not in an overconfident way saying we should be able to play Liverpool with a belief we will win the game. We'll have to do a lot of things really well and stop them playing but we’ve shown we can compete against the best teams in the country.”
