Weymouth hit four away at Bristol Manor Farm in Southern League

Evans 13

Jackson 26, Holmes 47, 61, Swann 82

WEYMOUTH produced a superb second-half display as Toby Holmes struck twice in a convincing 4-1 victory at the Creek to send them top of the Southern League Division One South.

The Terras had fallen behind despite making the brighter start, but Sam Jackson restored parity before the interval.

Holmes' quickfire second-half brace put Weymouth firmly in control with Tor Swann adding a fourth late on to round off an impressive night in Bristol.

Jamie Wells was still without skipper Tom Bearwish who was joined by Matt Neale and Kieran Douglas as absentees from Saturday's 3-0 win over Barnstaple.

Will Keita was afforded a rare start in central midfield whilst Harry Hutchinson came in at the back.

There was also a spot for Wes Fogden on the bench again as the midfielder continued to work his way back to full fitness after several weeks out with injury.

Weymouth had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring after just eight minutes when Holmes went one-on-one with Bristol keeper Owen Crawford, but his effort was well saved.

Instead it was the hosts who struck first, taking the lead against the run of play in the 13th minute.

Evans was able to wrestle the ball off a Terras defender before lifting it over the onrushing Gerard Benfield as Weymouth were made to pay for a mistake at the back

Jackson was booked six minutes later but soon made a more positive contribution, heading Weymouth level from a corner in the 26th minute.

Swann went close to completing the turnaround nine minutes later when his half-volley flew narrowly over.

Bristol were giving as good as they got in a tight first half and Ryan Cainey came close after connecting with Charlie White's free kick but shot wide, leaving the sides level at 1-1 at the interval.

Fogden was introduced for Keita at the start of the second half and the Terras wasted little time in taking control.

Just two minutes after the restart, Holmes was sent clean through and this time made no mistake, finishing in the top corner to put Weymouth 2-1 ahead.

Mitch Beardmore almost extended the advantage in the 51st minute with a superb strike, only to be denied by an equally impressive save by Crawford.

However, Weymouth did not have to wait much longer for their third.

Holmes was on target again in the 61st minute, somehow squeezing his effort in at the near post to give the Terras breathing space.

The hosts were handed an opportunity to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute, but the spot-kick was blazed wide by Joe Beardwell.

That miss was punished ten minutes later.

Beardmore's shot was parried by Crawford and Swann was on hand to convert the rebound, making it 4-1 and putting the seal on an emphatic Weymouth performance.

The win sends Weymouth top of the table on goal difference but with a game in hand over Swindon Supermarine in second.

Dorchester slip down to third a point behind both teams but also have a game in hand over Swindon.

Next up for the Terras is visit of Southern League Premier side SHoling in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
