BBC Scotland host Martin Geissler has spoken out against his fellow Hearts supporters over their "grim" songbook at Celtic Park. The away end at Parkhead endured a nightmare afternoon as they were thrashed 7-1 by Martin O'Neill's side on their first return to the east end of Glasgow since last season's dramatic title showdown on the final day. Wouter Vrancken's outfit were torn to shreds, with supporters making for the exits as Celtic raced into a 5-0 lead before half-time. Geissler was equally unimpressed by what he witnessed from a minority of travelling supporters, taking to social media to condemn what he described as "excruciating and humiliating songs" emanating from the away end.
He wrote: "Some grim songs coming out of the Hearts support today. I was there, it was excruciating and humiliating. A small, small section of our support as a whole but vocal and well represented today. Proud to support the club I've always loved but get that stuff out. It's awful."
In response, Geissler has received backing from both Hearts and Celtic supporters alike.
One fan wrote: "Fair play, Martin. I was in the main stand, next to the Hearts supporters. I realise that some of the stuff our lot come out with can be unpalatable. We all must do better."
Another social media user remarked: "My dad (81) is a lifelong Jambo and in the FOH, he wrote to the club after a game at Fir Park a couple of years ago to highlight how bad the issue is. Ann Budge was active at the time to set the expectations. Hopefully Calum Paterson will do the same. There's no need."
A further response stated: "Well called out Martin. Almost all clubs have their share of 'fans' who embarrass their club. There are plenty of decent football fans out there who are sick of them. Tough day for the Jambos today, but you'll bounce back. Your owner has a solid strategy.."
