Truro City overturned a two-goal deficit to win 4-3 away to Hampton & Richmond Borough in the National League South.

The Tinners’ seventh win of the season moved them up to third place in the table, two points off top spot, with a game in hand on most of their rivals.

Wilson Waweru opened the scoring midway through the first half for the hosts, putting Truro firmly on the back foot.

But just under 10 minutes later, Tom Dean equalised with a header to put the Tinners straight back into the game.

The scoreline did not stay level for long, however, as Bright Slaw restored Borough’s lead just before half-time.

After the interval, Waweru headed in his second to further strengthen the hosts’ grip on the lead, with seemingly no way back for the Cornish side.

However, the fightback began in the 64th minute when Tyler Harvey slotted home, giving Truro hope going into the latter stages of the match.

Almost instantly afterwards, Ben Starkie levelled the scoreline with an effort from outside the box, capping an incredible couple of minutes to bring the teams level.

Harvey then scored the winner with just over 10 minutes to play. A neat finish from the striker ensured they took maximum points from the game.

It was an outstanding comeback from Truro, one that could shape their season in the months ahead. If they can maintain this momentum, there will be only one outcome come the end of the campaign, and that is promotion.

Manager John Askey reflected on the performance and the character his team showed to turn the game around:

“Full credit to the players. To come back when you are two goals adrift takes some doing. To win a game, they showed a lot of determination and guts in the end.”

Next up is a league match against Slough Town in Cornwall on Tuesday night.
