The Tyrell Sloan saga has reared its ugly head once again with reports from down under stating that it remains a ‘possibility’ the speedster will remain in the NRL.
Sloan was announced as a Castleford Tigers signing way back in July but ever since then, more and more doubt has crept in about whether the Australian will actually head to Super League.
Much of that doubt came in the midst of Ryan Carr’s exit from the club with Carr having previously worked with Sloan when working as an assistant coach at St George Illawarra Dragons.
Speaking in August after another impressive performance for St George, Sloan admitted that he would ‘love to’ stay in the NRL before making similar comments to The Daily Telegraph.
“It definitely puts a big dent in things for me, I’ll be honest. Carry was a big reason why I signed over there,” Sloan admitted and ever since then, speculation has remained over whether he will actually sign for Castleford Tigers.
It’s worth noting that Sloan is contracted to Castleford for 2027 so the only way he does not come to Super League would be if another club negotiates a release from his Tigers’ contract, however, that may be in the works per a report from ESPN.

The report from ESPN has stated that Sloan’s Dragons stay is ‘still a possibility’, adding: “Tyrell Sloan could yet remain at St George Illawarra next season, with discussions ongoing over a potential stay despite his planned move to Castleford.”
As referenced above, any deal that sees Sloan stay in the NRL would need Castleford’s approval and that likely means his contract being bought out or some form of financial compensation.
With Paul Rowley recently appointed as head coach of the Tigers, he’ll begin familiarising himself with his squad and working out his plans and it’s to be seen if Sloan is part of those plans.
Capable of playing full-back or on the wing, Sloan would be a standout option in either position with the 26-year-old finishing the NRL campaign in fine form.
These latest reports around his future add more uncertainty around his future and Castleford fans will surely just be hoping to see the speedster turn up to pre-season training, which will start in early November.
