Athletic Club’s Nico Williams (24) reportedly turned down a move to Paris Saint-Germain two years ago, according to Félix Tainta, the Spanish forward’s agent.

“We all know about Barça’s interest in the summer of 2024, after the Euros,” he said in an interview with the Los Fulanos podcast. “Barça, Arsenal, Bayern, Liverpool, PSG… I could name them all. Everyone wanted Nico, and it’s not easy for a player to say no to all those clubs.”

However, the World Cup winner is said not to have been averse to a move. “Nico was thinking of leaving,” continued Tainta, highlighting his client’s ambitions to win the most prestigious trophies. Furthermore, whilst Barça had indeed wished to secure his services, the Catalan club’s inability to provide Williams with “firm guarantees” had led to the deal falling through.

And it was at Athletic that he ultimately decided to continue his career, even signing a contract extension until 2035. A decision highlighted by Tainta, who emphasised Williams’ loyalty to the club where he came through the ranks.
