2026 Ballon d’Or contender Lamine Yamal has managed to register more wins at LA’s SoFi Stadium than the two star starting QBs playing in that stadium for the NFL.
Justin Herbert and Matthew Stafford entered the 2026 NFL season with big expectations on their shoulders, with Herbert expected to finally emerge as a championship-level QB while Stafford led the preseason title favourites.
Despite the hype, both star QBs have somehow been outdone by soccer sensation Yamal, who still holds more wins than both of them in their home stadiums despite not playing there since June.
Yamal played two 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout games in the SoFi Stadium (called Los Angeles Stadium during the World Cup), a 3-0 win over Austria in the Round of 32 and a 2-1 win over Belgium in the quarter-finals.
This means Yamal and his other national team teammates are 2-0 in the stadium so far, while the Chargers and Rams look to be in trouble.
Stafford’s Rams won their home opener 28-6 against the New York Giants with Stafford playing a crucial role in the win. However, they have since lost to the Buffalo Bills (37-34 OT) and Arizona Cardinals (18-16) on their home field, going 2-4 overall on the season and 1-2 at SoFi.
The Chargers have lost every single game this season, starting 0-6, including three losses at their home field. Justin Herbert has struggled mightily, as the Cardinals (26-14), Las Vegas Raiders (26-14), and Denver Broncos (23-17) have all defeated the Chargers at home.
Funnily, even the Cardinals have a better record at SoFi Stadium than either the Chargers or Rams, but at least they are an NFL team. Yamal and the Spanish national team come from a different sport, making this statistical aberration stand out even more.
