A third-place finish last time out at the Singapore GP a fortnight ago means Antonelli now boasts a comfortable 102-point lead over his Mercedes teammate George Russell with just six races of the campaign left. Russell could only muster a ninth-place finish in Singapore after starting at the back of the grid, while Ferrari star Lewis Hamilton also saw his outside hopes of the title dwindle with a frustrating sixth-place finish.
Those results mean Antonelli could clinch his maiden world title this weekend if he wins Sunday’s race, Russell finishes ninth or lower, and Hamilton fifth or lower.
