Andy Dalton to sign with Bengals' upcoming opponent, per reports
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Andy Dalton (14) throws a pass in the third quarter of the NFL Preseason Week 3 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field in Philladelphia on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026. The Bengals finished the preseason undefeated with a 30-13 win over the Eagles.

Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is signing with the Atlanta Falcons, according to multiple reports.

The Bengals and Falcons are scheduled to meet in Madrid in NFL Week 9, on Nov. 8.

NBC Sports reported Oct. 18 that Dalton said "no thanks" when the Eagles asked him to return. Dalton was released Oct. 9 by the Eagles.

Dalton turns 39 years old later this month.

The Falcons' starting quarterback is Michael Penix Jr. The team's depth chart currently lists Tua Tagovailoa, Cooper Rush and Jack Strand as backup QBs.

Multiple reports indicate the Falcons are releasing Rush. The Dallas Cowboys waived Rush in 2020 after signing Dalton.

In September, Dalton entered the Eagles' Monday Night Football game against the Chicago Bears in relief of starting QB Jalen Hurts, and threw an interception in the end zone in the second quarter. It's Dalton's only pass attempt of the 2026 season.

Earlier in the month, Dalton, who was vying to back up Hurts, earned the No. 2 job over third-stringer Tanner McKee when McKee was among the team's inactives for their season opener.

Dalton was 12-of-19 for 104 passing yards with a touchdown during the team's third and final preseason game against the Bengals at Lincoln Financial Field.

Dalton, Cincinnati's starting QB from 2011 to 2019, ranks second behind Ken Anderson among Cincinnati's all-time leaders in passing yardage.

In March, Dalton was traded by the Carolina Panthers to Philly for a 2027 seventh-round draft pick.

Dalton played in 13 games over the past three seasons for the Panthers.

Dalton started against the Bengals during the 2024 season for the fourth time since Cincinnati released him in 2020.

In June 2025, Dalton played dodgeball at a Savannah Bananas game at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium.
