With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, things are heating up in Indianapolis. The Colts could be heading for a major reset after longtime general manager Chris Ballard was fired following a humiliating 26-20 home loss to division rival Tennessee Titans in Week 6.
The Titans had been winless until that game, with the Colts handing them their first victory of the season. The Colts fired Ballard the following morning, after the loss dropped Indianapolis to 2-4.
His departure has sparked anxiety among veteran players and their families, with concerns that the locker room could be in for a major shakeup. Among them is Jonathan Taylor’s wife, Ayanna Taylor.
The discussion began after Ayanna posted a series of clips and videos on social media. In the first video, she said that “players that once seemed untouchable may now be on the table” and hinted at how stressful things had become, describing her current life as essentially a “Colts transaction watch.”
On Sunday, Ayanna shared another part of the series, offering more insight into her concerns.
“When you’re coming into a new job, you’re looking at, okay, what do I have? What do I need? How do I build this team to be a contender to make it to the Super Bowl? Because why else am I here? You don’t want to deal with somebody’s old dirty work, so you want to start fresh,” Ayanna said, referring to assistant GM Ed Dodds, who is overseeing the personnel department for the remainder of the season.
The Colts traded heavily for cornerback Sauce Gardner in November last year, giving up first-round picks in the 2026 and 2027 NFL Drafts. Thus, they won’t have a first-round selection in the upcoming draft to add elite college talent.
“They just fired their 10-year GM, and they have no draft picks. How are they going to get new leadership to come in when they really have no options for new leadership to transform the team? Let’s think about it.”
“What do you do when you don’t have what you need and you don’t have the money to pay for it, and you can’t steal in this situation. You can’t steal in the league. You trade. That’s what brings us back to my husband,” she explained.
To make room for incoming talent, the franchise may need to create salary-cap space. Taylor, who signed a two-year, $44 million contract in August 2026, could emerge as a primary trade target.
However, it would be unreasonable to trade him at this point if the leadership aims to rebuild the roster as championship contenders. Taylor remains one of the most productive running backs in the league.
Through the first seven weeks, he has recorded 765 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns. He has been a key part of the Colts’ struggling offense, which has also dealt with quarterback issues, particularly with Daniel Jones.
In the Week 7 game against the Minnesota Vikings, Jones gave away a potential game-winning opportunity with a costly interception in the final minutes.
Taylor currently ranks No. 10 in PFN’s Running Back Impact Score, with a grade of 77.4 through seven weeks. He has spent seven seasons with the organization since being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Following a 16-10 loss to the Vikings, the Colts are 2-5 on the season. They will next face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at EverBank Stadium in Florida.
