Slegers reveals repeated flaw of Arsenal after another draw

Renée Slegers spoke about a 1-1 draw for Arsenal against Birmingham City.

The Gunners went into the international break ten points behind defending champions Manchester City, to whom they had lost 4-2 earlier this month.

The fortnight away from club action could have allowed them to reset with a win on Saturday afternoon, but their frustrating form has persisted.

Another draw at the Emirates

Olivia Smith cancelled out the goal from Océane Hurtré, but the hosts could not take three points at the Emirates Stadium. Their only league triumph remains the opening matchday win over Brighton.

"I think the start of the game was quite good, it was nice to be back at the Emirates with the fans.

“I think then, later in the first half, we lose momentum too many times with details of our passes, details of positioning, intensity in the press, duels. So, then we make it harder for ourselves.

"I don't think we created enough in the first half. [The] second half is different, there was one player we needed to stop in Birmingham and that was Océane Hurtré. But she came through in a fast break and a counter, we don't defend that well enough.

"We are in a scenario that we've had too many times season. Then we have to chase the goal and there's so much pressure on us. Liv then scores for 1-1, which was good, then we have a lot of shots, 27 I think, but not enough on target, so we're not ruthless enough in those moments. So, it is still about how we set up the best possible chances for ourselves, which we didn't do well enough today.
