New England Patriots rookie offensive tackle Caleb Lomu has a pass-blocking win rate to marvel at this season.
According to Pro Football Focus, Lomu has the fourth-highest pass-block win rate when on an island among all active offensive tackles in the NFL at 95.6 percent.
The statistical excellence that Lomu has produced in that area this season has been of great use for the Patriots. He has had his share of high moments thus far this year and might be showing the skills necessary to be a difference-maker for New England when it matters most come postseason time.
Lomu has yet to allow a single sack or hit this season, but he has allowed three pressures this year. Given the fact that he has avoided some of the most damaging mistakes possible for an offensive lineman to make, his performance when on an island further highlights his effectiveness when dealing with relentless edge rushers pursuing the quarterback.
The Utah product has contributed to New England's victories this season, and his involvement in the offense has demonstrated that he is capable of providing the Patriots with value in a variety of ways as well.
Looking ahead, the challenge will only get tougher for Lomu in Week 9 when the Patriots face the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay has recorded the fifth-most sacks in the league this season with 22, boasting a dangerous defensive front capable of creating problems for Lomu and the Patriots' offensive line.
Lomu will have the opportunity to put forth a strong performance against Green Bay to help keep Patriots quarterback Drake Maye protected against one of his toughest tests yet.
