FORMER St Mark’s student George Watkins produced an incredible half marathon debut at Great Eastern Run in Peterborough at the weekend.

George, now running for Macclesfield Athletics Club, came 20th in an incredible time of 69.43.

George is still only 16 years of age and this was his first outing at the 13.1 mile distance.

Many of George’s coaches believe that he thrives in the much longer distances.

It would be fascinating what time, with a decent winter training in the tank, he could do for the marathon.

He may have left Harlow but as athletics fans we follow George’s career with great interest.
