The Denver Broncos beat the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football following an overtime field goal from kicker Wil Lutz but his celebration did cause quite a lot of confusion.

It was not a Thursday Night Football for the ages with the quarterback play from both Sam Darnold and Bo Nix receiving a lot of criticism in the hours following. One player whose performance cannot be questioned is the Broncos’ kicker, Lutz.

The 32-year-old secured the win with his overtime field goal after making both of his extra point attempts during the first half of the game. Having witnessed the Broncos’ offence struggle to get going in the second half at Mile High, Lutz took full opportunity to celebrate his game-winning field goal.

However, his shushing of the crowd celebration raised a lot of questions given the kicker was playing on home soil in Colorado.

Why Will Lutz shushed the Denver Broncos fans after beating Seattle Seahawks

It was quite a bizarre sight to seemingly witness the kicker for the Broncos shushing his own fans after winning the game against the Super Bowl champions. Following the game at Mile High, Lutz took the opportunity to clarify his celebration through his X account.

“To clarify any misunderstanding….We have the best fans and home field advantage in the NFL ,I’ll continue to voice that my entire time as a Bronco. The critics and all the noise we as a team, and personally, face can cause the emotion to come out sometimes,” he said.

“It’s such a cool moment to be able to hit big kick in that setting for this team, in front of our fans…it’s what we live for. I love the support of our fans and the standard you all hold us to, it’s why we want to win for this city and fan base! We all play with a chip on our shoulder, and I hope that makes everyone proud! Onward and upward!”

Despite his claim that he was shushing the outside critics surrounding the Broncos’ recent form, the performance against the Seahawks has only increased the number of doubters. Although the Broncos were playing without some of their star defenders, it was their quarterback’s performance that has received a lot of criticism.

Nix failed to throw for a single touchdown on Thursday night which has now seen him throw just two touchdowns in his last three games. Six touchdown throws through the opening six games simply is not good enough to silence his doubters.
