It took the Los Angeles Rams offense almost an entire half of football to wake up on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, falling behind 9-3 in the second quarter. The defense was once again doing its job, as it has for most of the season, but the offense was nowhere to be found.
Finally, they found a rhythm by feeding Puka Nacua and running the ball, which is usually a recipe for success. As the game went on, the Rams defense continued to suffocate Justin Herbert in the pocket and force him into bad decisions, turning his two interceptions into 10 points.
The Chargers managed to keep things fairly interesting for a little while but in the third quarter, the Rams started to pull away. And in the fourth quarter, the Rams did a great job running the clock out and preventing any chance of a comeback by the Chargers. They possessed the ball for more than 17 minutes in the second half, keeping the ball away from Herbert and the Chargers down the stretch.
Here's a quick recap of how the Rams got the win, highlighting the best players and top play of the day.
... the Rams stopped the Chargers on fourth down at the 24-yard line, getting the ball back with 6:39 to play. The Rams managed to put the game away with a long drive that took all the time off the clock and sealed the win.
Coming out of halftime, the Rams needed a spark on offense and Blake Corum provided it. He rushed for 55 yards on just five carries during the opening drive of the third quarter, including this 23-yard touchdown run.
The Rams will hit the road and face the Washington Commanders in an away game next Sunday, with an early 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. The Commanders face the Eagles on Sunday night, but through the first seven weeks of the season, Washington is just 1-4-1.
