Former Texas A&M pitcher Justin Lamkin continues to make an impression in professional baseball, earning recognition for one of his best performances since joining the Kansas City Royals organization.
Lamkin was named the Arizona Fall League's Week 3 Pitcher of the Week on Monday after delivering 4 1/3 perfect innings for the Surprise Saguaros against the Mesa Solar Sox on Wednesday. The 22-year-old left-hander retired all 13 batters he faced, striking out four while throwing 40 of his 52 pitches for strikes. His performance helped Surprise carry a no-hitter into the seventh inning.
In three Arizona Fall League starts, Lamkin has posted a 3.97 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and nine strikeouts over 11 1/3 innings. He has allowed just five hits while holding opposing batters to a .128 average. According to MLB.com, Lamkin has allowed just two runs on two hits over his last 10⅓ innings, striking out eight during that stretch.
The former Texas A&M standout was selected by Kansas City with the 71st overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft and is currently ranked as the organization's No. 8 prospect by MLB Pipeline. Lamkin's recent success is particularly encouraging after a left shoulder injury interrupted his first full professional season in May.
Before the setback, he posted a 2.04 ERA with 53 strikeouts across 39 2/3 innings between High-A Quad Cities and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The Arizona Fall League has given Lamkin a chance to regain momentum while continuing to develop his pitching arsenal, including a curveball he began using after leaving College Station.
For Lamkin, the weekly recognition represents another positive step as he works toward reaching the major leagues.
