ESPN names Georgia football's biggest flaw

The 2026 college football season is winding down, with the 9th and 10th games for most teams underway. The college football playoff rankings have shaken up quite a bit with many changes. But some teams have managed to stay consistent throughout the chaos of the season, Georgia being one of them.

Georgia entered this season with great expectations, and part of that was getting to the national championship game, after losing in the Sugar Bowl to Ole Miss last season. Georgia has consistently been in the AP Top-10, and they have a chance to get to the national championship this year, but there are a few factors that could keep them from getting there.

ESPN named what could keep every team in the playoff rankings from winning the national championship, and for Georgia, turnovers are a key factor. What ESPN's Bill Connelly said about the Bulldogs.

"The Dawgs are crushing the high-level stats this year: They're fourth in yards per play and fifth in yards per play allowed; they're fourth in success rate and 13th in success rate allowed. But they can't stop threatening to turn the ball over. Their interception rate (1.8%) ranks a decent but unspectacular 41st nationally, but they've fumbled an incredible 14 times. That's tied for 126th in the nation. They've suffered eight fumbles in the past three games alone. They've muffed four punts, but eight other players have fumbled at least once. It's the strangest of epidemics. "

One of the games in which Georgia had turnover issues was against Auburn, when they turned the ball over three times: two interceptions and a fumble. That ultimately cost them the game, and Auburn won a field goal. They fumbled the ball against Florida and had an interception against Alabama, and two fumbles against Western Kentucky also. They have nine total turnovers in eight games so far. Georgia was lucky to not lose a fumble in their win at Alabama.

If Georgia wants to make a run in the College Football Playoff, they have to limit turnovers and make the most of their offensive possessions late in the game.
