Michigan safety Rod Moore avoided a long term injury after leaving Saturday's game against Penn State early.
Michigan football sixth-year safety Rod Moore was sidelined for nearly two seasons after tearing his ACL in spring ball in 2024, and though he appeared in three games last year, his recovery had a series of setbacks. He returned at nearly full strength in 2026, but he had still been working to get back to being the player he had been before his injury.
And then, on Saturday against Penn State, Moore jumped a route and tallied his first interception of the season, and his eighth overall. However, in the aftermath, he quickly went to the medical tent before being carted off the field.
However, when asked about Moore's injury, head coach Kyle Whittingham said that there's some good news and that it doesn't appear to be a significant setback for the three-time team captain.
"Should be OK. It's nothing major," Whittingham said. "When I say, OK, will he be ready for the next game? That's debatable. But it's nothing that's long-term."
It would be helpful for the Wolverines to have Moore this upcoming week, considering Indiana is coming to town. But given that Chris Bracy, Jordan Young, and Mason Curtis are also available at the safety position, there's more help than, say, along the offensive line -- a unit that has been decimated by injuries.
Moore may not return for IU, but with Rutgers and MSU in the following weeks, Michigan may look to get him back closer to the home stretch in November.
