Yeovil Town 'not getting carried away' but thriving on brilliant run

“You ask anyone who plays for, works for or supports Yeovil Town, the atmosphere and environment is absolutely brilliant - how can you not thrive in an environment like that?"

Captain and hat-trick hero Brett McGavin has warned against getting carried away after a second successive 6-0 National League win on Saturday.

McGavin’s first career treble, alongside two Johl Powell goals and one for James Daly secured a 6-0 win at Wealdstone seven days after meting out the same beating to Boston United at Huish Park.

"I am taking the match ball home but what a performance from the team,” McGavin told BBC Somerset, “I am so proud of everyone and what a result.”

The Glovers are fourth in the National League, and McGavin said: “You ask anyone who plays for, works for or supports Yeovil Town, the atmosphere and environment is absolutely brilliant - how can you not thrive in an environment like that?

“Right from the top down they are all incredible people, and what a football club to play for.

“We have been on the other end of some bad results here so when we are the team who can do it to the opposition - enjoy it, but on’t get carried away.

“We have been on a brilliant run but we need to stay on it and stay humble.

“Football will come back and bite you if you are not level-headed and humble.

“We’ve just won 6-0, 6-0. Leatherhead in the FA Cup on Saturday is the perfect opportunity to keep our feet on the ground - these games can be tough and tricky.”

McGavin has taken on the captain’s armband with Luke McCormick currently out of the picture - describing the accolade as “an honour”.

“I will wear it proudly. I see myself as a leader anyway so the armband doesn’t change anything,” said McGavin.
