Max Verstappen is working on a Spa 24 Hours debut in 2027. The four-time Formula 1 world champion said he will try his best to be on the grid for the Belgian endurance classic next season.
Max Verstappen is hoping to compete in the Spa 24 Hours in 2027, with the four-time Formula 1 world champion saying he will do his best to make the race.
Verstappen was speaking in Portimão, where he is making his GT World Challenge Europe debut this weekend. Asked by the GT World media team about racing at Spa now that the event does not clash with an F1 Grand Prix, he said he was working on a possible entry.
I love Spa of course, so I’m trying to make it work, as I want to arrive well prepared. I’m going to try my best to be there. It’s close to the Dutch border and I’m also half Belgian. For me it would be nice to join and to race in one of the biggest endurance events of the year.- Max Verstappen to GT World, via Motorsport Week
As GPblog reported when the 2027 F1 schedule came out, Verstappen’s participation in two iconic races beckons after F1 calendar announcement. Neither 24-hour race clashes with a Grand Prix weekend.
During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, Verstappen had previously opened up on what races he could look to take part in next year outside of Formula 1.
He said: "Nurburgring and Spa, probably. Le Mans not. That's not on my list for now. But, yeah, I mean, I said already, of course, after the race at the Nordschleife that I wanted to go back. So if it allows me to prepare well and it all works out well, I know it there is no clash, but it it still needs to work out on my schedule, then I'll do it. And Spa is an exciting option, yeah, to do it."
Verstappen is in action today as his team, Verstappen Racing, line up in 15th for the GT World Challenge Portimao.
