Badredine Bouanani Rangers start explained by Derek McInnes

The Algerian replaces Kevin Kelsy in the only change from the side that defeated Kilmarnock, with McInnes making a tactical tweak to his attacking set-up.

Speaking to Rangers TV before the game, McInnes explained that the change was partly designed to move Minsu into a more central role. He said: “It’s really to put Minsu more central. It’s a similar system in terms of how we played at Aberdeen at the start of this winning run.

“We expect Dundee to come on [to us] with a full press and they’ve been pretty good at that recently with a 4-4-2. We want to try and find spaces and control the middle of the pitch.

“With Bad coming in off the right-hand side, we feel he’s had to be patient, but he’s training well, and he’s eager to go and take his opportunity.

"Hopefully we can see that tonight.”

McInnes also stressed that Kelsy dropping to the bench was not a reflection on the striker’s performance last time out.

“There’s a lot of boys who aren’t getting the game-time because the team’s been settled, and it’s not a reflection on Kevin’s performance because he scored and did well last week.

“He’s got a big part to play in this game, but we feel the little tweak to the system will help us tonight.”

Bouanani will operate from the right as McInnes looks for his tactical adjustment to help Rangers control the middle of the pitch and overcome Dundee’s press.
