Richmond Motor Club saw the annual Scott Trial event run on Saturday, with 182 riders setting off from the Start Field just outside of Marske.

This year’s event was the 100th running of the trial, with the event being founded in 1914, but years being missed due to World Wars, Foot & Mouth & Covid-19. There was a chill in the air on the Start Field as the sun began to rise, revealing clear skies to make for good riding conditions. Lack of heavy rain this year meant the ground was hard, but many riders would still get caught in bogs on the moors.

Richmondshire MP and former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was invited by Richmond Motor Club’s Scott Trial committee to be the official 2026 Scott Trial Starter, waving away riders onto the course in 20-second intervals. Sunak gave a speech thanking the club and its volunteers and marshals, as well as thanking all the Landowners who gave permission for the trial to run across their ground.

Riders attempted 76 sections planned out by Clerk of Course Andrew Swainston & helpers and covered approximately 87 miles over the day. Out of the 182 starters, 92 riders finished the full course within the allowed time.

Spectators were pleased to once again see familiar road racer & TV personality Guy Martin (GASGAS) attempt the trial. He showed improvement by getting further round the course than his three previous attempts. Six-time World Champion Adam Raga (Sherco) was also back again and keen to try to improve on his position of 7th place.

Unfortunately, Raga’s chain came off and caused irreparable damage to the slave cylinder, forcing him to retire early. He has already stated he will be back again next year for another go!

Four-time Scott Trial winner Jack Price (GASGAS) was the first rider home and set Standard Time for the second time, the first being in 2018. Price completed the course in 4 hours, 51 minutes and 18 seconds. He dropped 36 marks on the course, pushing him down to fourth place.

2025 Scottish Six Days Trial winner Jack Peace (Sherco) lost 24 marks on observation and 11 marks on time, awarding him third place overall. Peace was also presented with the Jubilee Trophy for the rider losing the least marks on time and observation between the years of 2022-2026.

2026 British Trials Championship winner Harry Hemingway (Beta) lost 22 on observation and 9 marks on time, coming in second place overall. His brother George Hemingway (Beta) had a fantastic result this year, after coming so close to the win at last year’s trial. This year was Hemingway’s second Scott Trial and at the young age of 18 he was determined to prove himself capable of earning the Alfred Scott Memorial Trophy.

That he did, and it was joked at the awards presentation after the event that he would need a wheelbarrow to take all the trophies he was awarded home. Hemingway completed the trial losing just 21 marks on observation and 7 marks on time, finishing with a total score of 28 marks lost. As well as winning the Alfred Scott Memorial Trophy for first place in the 2026 Scott Trial, Hemingway was also awarded The Frank Fletcher Trophy for the best performance on observation alone, The Billy Moore Cup for the best performance by a Yorkshireman born & bred, The Sir Tom Cowie Trophy for the best performance by a rider under the age of 21 and The Mel Harrison Cup for the best performance by a registered member of the Yeadon and Guiseley Motor Club.

Between the Hemingway brothers’ performances and Jack Spencer (Beta) finishing in 10th place, Team Beta UK A was awarded The Scott Trophy for the best performance by a team of three riders all on the same make of machine, entered by a manufacturer or manufacturer’s agent. The Hemingways, along with Jack Price, were also awarded The Eric S Myers Trophy for the best performance by a team of three riders not all on the same make of machine, entered by an ACU affiliated club – Yeadon & Guiseley A Team.

Alice Minta (Beta) was once again awarded with the MHT Trophy for the best performance by a lady rider, finishing with 150 marks on observation and 97 marks on time; total score 247.

On the evening of the trial, the awards were presented to riders who gathered with their friends and families to discuss the day’s events over a drink (or two) in Richmond. The annual charity auction was held online in the week leading up to the event, with bids for guaranteed entries to prestigious trials in both England and Scotland being placed via email. These entries were very kindly donated by various Motor Club Committees. A one-of-a-kind helmet and wrap was also auctioned to commemorate the 100th running of the Scott Trial this year. Prior to the awards presentation, there was a small auction including a pair of Alpinestars trials boots signed by Adam Raga, a Scott Trial painting and a special 100th Scott Trial banner, signed by all riders of the 2026 event.

Between the online auction and the evening auction, £4,727 was raised. This will be added to the total charity funds raised by the 2026 Scott Trial. The money raised from the 2026 event will be presented to the charities in Spring 2027.

Richmond Motor Club’s Scott Trial Committee would like to thank everybody involved in the mammoth task of organising and running the event! The Club is indebted to the landowners who allow the event to run over their land each year – thank you.

Also a huge thank you to the 2026 Scott Trial main sponsor L & A Dent Game Dealers Ltd, and to everyone who has supported the trial in 2026. Well done to everybody who attempted the trial, we hope to see you next year!
