Avram Glazer, a member of the family controlling Manchester United, is facing renewed supporter anger as the club sinks deeper into crisis.
The Glazers have owned United since 2005, with their debt-funded takeover leaving an expensive legacy that continues to overshadow Old Trafford.
September’s financial filings revealed United’s total debt had reached £1.15 billion, including historic borrowings, credit facilities and unpaid transfer fees.
Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, which assumed control of football operations in February 2024, has also failed to win over supporters.
Ticket-price increases, staff redundancies and controversial recruitment decisions have intensified the backlash against both ownership groups.
The anger erupted again during Sunday’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Supporters chanted against the Glazers, Ratcliffe and director of football Jason Wilcox. They continued singing Michael Carrick’s name before loudly booing his players off the pitch.
United have won just two of their opening 12 competitive matches, leaving Carrick fighting to survive despite last season’s third-place finish.
As Centre Devils covered earlier today, the Glazers are also reportedly unhappy with Ratcliffe’s handling of hundreds of job cuts.
With fans demanding a change at the top, attention has turned to a major sale process involving Avram Glazer’s wider business interests.
According to WWD, Iconix International has hired J.P. Morgan bankers to seek a buyer for the brand-management business.
Iconix was taken private in 2021 by Lancer Capital, the investment firm led by Avram Glazer, in a transaction worth $585 million including debt.
The company controls brands including Umbro, Starter and Ed Hardy.
Sources said J.P. Morgan has approached other brand-management companies after earlier talks with Authentic Brands Group failed to produce a deal.
WHP Global and Marquee Brands were also mentioned, although neither was reportedly interested.
Iconix did not respond to requests for comment, while J.P. Morgan declined to comment.
The reported process does not involve Manchester United, and no buyer or completed sale has been announced.
