A deadline has reportedly been set for Formula 1 to decide whether the season-ending double-header in Qatar and Abu Dhabi will go ahead.

Earlier in the season, races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Malaysia stepped up at the last minute to host the Bahrain Grand Prix, which took place this month.

Now, with the season edging closer to its conclusion, no decision has been made on whether the Qatar Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will take place on November 29 and December 6, respectively, will go ahead.

There have been concerns over the safety of the drivers, team personnel, and fans due to the Middle East conflict. Imola has previously been tipped to step in as a potential replacement, but nothing has been confirmed just yet.

Deadline Set for Decision on F1 Races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi

Formula 1 Schedule 2026

According to GPblog, a decision on the races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi is set to be made after the elections in the United States of America.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that a deadline of November 9 has been set for Imola to find out whether it will host the final Grand Prix of the 2026 season.

GPblog stated: “Formula 1 teams had been assured behind the scenes that they would not have to travel to Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Instead, the season would conclude at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. The teams have also already booked hotel rooms in the Italian region.”

Despite the ongoing situation, the 2026 calendar is yet to be altered due to the financial interests that are related to races in the Middle East; cancellations are set to cost commercial rights holders significant revenue.

What Has the FIA Said About Cancelling the Season-Ending Double-Header in the Middle East?

Mohammed Ben Sulayem

Speaking last week, as reported by GPblog, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem claimed that races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi will go ahead as planned.

He explained: “[The FIA has] common sense here that we will never take our staff or drivers or any officials to a place where we feel it is risky - no way.

“Yeah, [I feel] fine [about these countries hosting a race]. You think I would leave them there and I'm here now with you [if it was dangerous]? You have to be sensible in this. Saying, 'Are we going to have an issue?' is one thing.

“But what you read in the media is actually different than what we have there. What we read and see on TV, we say, 'Where is it?' We don't have that, really. Otherwise why would I stay there? Why would I leave my family there?

“Does this say that there is nothing that is going to happen? I can't predict this. I can only tell you today that there is nothing and the two races are going to happen.”

The 2026 F1 season continues this weekend with the Mexican Grand Prix, taking place around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
