Kompany and Kane react to Ballon d’Or favourite tag after Arsenal draw

Harry Kane delivered another influential performance as Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the Champions League, and Vincent Kompany believes the striker deserves individual recognition for his displays.

Harry Kane was pleased with Bayern Munich’s performance against Arsenal but admitted that a late drop in intensity prevented the German champions from securing all three points.

“It was a good performance, with really good intensity from our team. Sadly, our form dropped off in the last 15 minutes, and it was probably a fair draw. We take the point and move on,” Kane said.

Bayern were without several key players, and Kane stressed that the absences had to be taken into account. However, he also acknowledged that small details often decide matches at this level.

“At this stage, with the games we’re playing, it’s about details, and we didn’t get enough things right to win.”

Kane played a crucial role in Bayern’s equaliser, delivering a superb pass to Alphonso Davies before the Canadian finished confidently. The England captain explained that Davies’ pace allowed him to operate in a deeper position and influence the game with his passing.

The striker was also asked about Michael Ballack’s suggestion that he is the favourite for Monday’s Ballon d’Or award.

“I hope Michael Ballack knows something I don’t,” Kane joked. “I think I had a great year, and I would be really happy to receive such an award.”

Kompany was equally enthusiastic about his striker’s chances. The Bayern coach believes the award would be a fitting recognition of Kane’s performances, professionalism and commitment.

“If Harry Kane could finish his career with an award like the Ballon d’Or, that would be incredibly deserved,” Kompany said.

He acknowledged that team trophies have been the more important achievements during Kane’s time at Bayern, but added that an individual honour would also be a special moment for the forward.

For now, Kane and Bayern must turn their attention back to domestic competition. Kompany highlighted Freiburg as their next challenge, insisting that his side will look to deliver another strong performance at the weekend.
