Real Madrid has reached a verbal agreement with Manchester United forward JJ Gabriel, according to Sky Sports. The Spanish club wants the 16-year-old to join in January, although he remains registered with United’s academy until the end of the season.
Fabrizio Romano reports that nothing has been signed and FIFA approval is still required. Sky reported on Wednesday that there had been no contact between the clubs. United could consider legal action if it believes transfer rules have been broken.
Gabriel asked to leave United in September and has not trained with the club since. He is currently maintaining his fitness in Spain, with his camp believing Madrid offers a clear route to first-team football.
Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also shown interest. Gabriel became the youngest winner of United’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award last season.
