It has been a long week for Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix. Despite helping his team (if you can call it that) defeat the Seattle Seahawks last Thursday night, he's been knocked around by the media. That started immediately after the game, with former quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick ripping into Nix.
Of all the people to come to the defense of Nix, Broncos fans likely never expected Phil Simms. However, the former New York Giants quarterback and former CBS analyst says he's not worried about Nix at all in a recent appearance on Up and Adams with Kay Adams.
"So you're not worried about Bo (Nix) at all?" asked Adams, to which Simms quickly replied, "No."
"Why would I be worried? He put a whole damn year on tape last year," said Simms on Up and Adams. "He was really, really good, even though most critics, who don't know crap, were saying things. What were you watching? Every time I watched him, I said, 'Another really good job.'"
Simms would go on to say that he feels that the Broncos, with Sean Payton, will be able to figure out how to turn things around and get the ball down the field more often. This is a good sign for Nix that not everyone feels like he is sinking the ship in Denver, and these are strong words coming from a quarterback who was a Super Bowl MVP and had to overcome adversity himself during his playing career.
Broncos fans would often claim that Simms held a personal vendetta against the Broncos during his time calling games for CBS from 1998-2017. Simms never had any reason to dislike the Broncos, particularly because he had his best game as a professional against them when he won Super Bowl MVP honors in Super Bowl XXI when the New York Giants beat the Broncos 39-20.
Still, this had to be a refreshing take for Broncos fans. Maybe the sky isn't falling? Simms doesn't think it is.
