The Liverpool vs Arsenal predicted lineups are a lot of fun to think about as this will be one heck of a game at Anfield on Sunday.
Childhood friends Andoni Iraola and Mikel Arteta lock horns in an intriguing tactical clash, with Iraola building some serious momentum early on in charge of Liverpool.
On the other hand Arteta will be looking for a big reaction from the reigning Premier League champions as they were knocked out of the League Cup in midweek by fourth-tier Fleetwood Town in one of the biggest shocks in English football history.
Below we take a look at the Liverpool vs Arsenal predicted lineups, with possible XI’s for both and analyze some of the big decisions both Iraola and Arteta have to make.
——- Alisson ——-
—- Araujo —- Jacquet —- Van Dijk —- Kerkez —-
—— Gravenberch —- Mac Allister —-
—— Gakpo —— Wirtz —— Barcola ——
——- Isak ——-
Iraola has got pretty good at rotating this Liverpool squad, even though the depth has been tested mightily in certain areas early in the season. The back four now has a very settled look with Ronald Araujo becoming a fans’ favorite at right back and providing much-needed extra balance. In midfield Dominik Szoboszlai is an injury doubt and whether or not he’s ready to go will have a big impact, as we saw in Liverpool’s defeat against Manchester City. Szoboszlai’s energy and drive from central areas really can swing a game in Liverpool’s favor. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch will likely start together in central midfield but don’t be surprised if youngster Trey Nyoni gets the nod for big minutes. He’s been really good in recent games. In attack they’ve been sublime with Florian Wirtz looking really good in the No. 10 role and Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak are striking up a fine partnership and are a real handful individually and as a duo.
——- Raya ——-
—- Timber —- Konsa —- Gabriel —- Calafiori —-
—— Rice —- Lewis-Skelly ——
—— Madueke —- Odegaard —- Eze ——
——- Havertz ——
With William Saliba still out injured Arsenal’s back four pretty much pick itself right now. It’s likely Riccardo Calafiori starts at left back and although Ben White has been really good at right back, this might be the game for Jurrien Timber to start as he tries to shut down Barcola. In midfield having Myles Lewis-Skelly alongside Declan Rice seems like the play to give Arteta more defensive solidity, with Martin Odegaard starting ahead of them and Bruno Guimaraes and Mikel Merino able to come on and provide extra quality and energy in the second half. But out wide is the issue. Both Christos Tzolis and Bukayo Saka have gone down with injuries, with the latter being injured a big problem. Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze have both had ups and downs in recent games out wide but Arteta doesn’t have that many options in those areas, especially with Max Dowman sent off in midweek and suspended. Arteta could start Kai Havertz on the left to try and rejuvenate his creativity but Viktor Gyokeres has struggled for starts up top and Havertz will likely get the nod to lead the line and open up gaps for Arsenal’s other forwards to use. It feels like Arteta usually goes for Havertz from the start in big games like this.
