Tottenham lineups for Chelsea as James Maddison throws Roberto De Zerbi midfield curveball

Tottenham Hotspur have lost each of their last six meetings with Chelsea in the Premier League, so Roberto De Zerbi will be desperate to set the record straight.

Roberto De Zerbi could raise a few eyebrows when he names the Tottenham Hotspur starting lineup to face Chelsea. Although the Lilywhites are expected to welcome some key players back to the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, they're also set to be without some big names.

Speaking to reporters at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Friday afternoon, the Tottenham boss began by announcing the return of Pedro Porro. De Zerbi confirmed that Andy Robertson, Omar Marmoush, and Dominic Solanke will also be available for selection.

The Italian did, however, rule out Savio, Destiny Udogie, and Lucas Bergvall before suggesting that James Maddison could miss out too. As for Dejan Kulusevski, who made his long-awaited return to action in the win over Coventry City on Monday night, he trained individually this week.

Discussing his midfield headache, De Zerbi said: "In the first three days, Maddison didn’t work with us. I don’t know if he is available for tomorrow. We can play with [Matys] Tel, with Marmoush, with [Conor] Gallagher.

Make sure you never miss the latest Tottenham news and opinion by making Football London one of your Google preferred sources.

He added: "Like I said many times, I don’t want to take risks because if you analyse this period of European football, you can see many, many injuries and not for Tottenham but everyone. Kulusevski worked well, but in the first days stayed individual."

So, with that being said, journalists at football.london have selected the Tottenham starting lineup to face Chelsea.

It wouldn't be a normal week at Tottenham without a load of injury absences or doubts and this week is no different.

Destiny Udogie remains out and there are plenty of other doubts, including James Maddison after he wasn't able to train for days following his eye-catching first start in almost 18 months. If he's available though, the England international showed how important he was on Monday night so you would want him in there.

You would imagine De Zerbi will take the opportunity to bring Conor Gallagher back in against his old club with his energy and pressing likely to be required. It could be that he comes into the centre of the pitch with his ability to slot in when the returning Pedro Porro gets forward could be useful.

De Zerbi could spring a back three on Chelsea if he wants to give Marcos Senesi a run-out but he might prefer to have Micky van de Ven's pace through the middle with the hosts' various attackers.

Much depends elsewhere on just how fit Andy Robertson and Omar Marmoush are as to whether they start again after appearing to come off injured against Coventry.

Alasdair's starting lineup to face Chelsea: Antonin Kinsky, Pedro Porro, Jan Paul van Hecke, Micky van de Ven, Andy Robertson; Connor Gallagher, Sandro Tonali; Mohammed Kudus, James Maddison, Omar Marmoush; Dominic Solanke.

I think Roberto De Zerbi could make three changes to the starting lineup this weekend, starting with a couple of new faces in the backline. Speaking to reporters at Hotspur Way on Friday afternoon, the Italian did, of course, confirm that Pedro Porro and Andy Robertson will be available for selection; they will be HUGE additions!

In the middle of the park, unfortunately, James Maddison could be due for a rest, having missed out on a few training sessions this week. In an ideal world, the Lilywhites midfielder keeps his place in the starting lineup, but it sounded like De Zerbi didn't plan on gambling on his fitness, which is fair enough.

It'll be difficult to replace Maddison, but it's about time that the Spurs boss gives Mateus Fernandes a chance. Looking at the frontline, I can't imagine De Zerbi changing too much, with Mohammed Kudus, Omar Marmoush, and Dominic Solanke either bagging a goal or recording an assist on Monday night.

Jake's starting lineup to face Chelsea: Antonin Kinsky, Pedro Porro, Jan Paul van Hecke, Micky van de Ven, Andy Robertson, Sandro Tonali, Archie Gray, Mohammed Kudus, Mateus Fernandes, Omar Marmoush, Dominic Solanke.
