These young Newcastle United stars mean exciting times ahead

The young Newcastle United stars have started this season where they left off the last one.

The United Under 18s in stunning form and that progressed yet another step on Saturday.

A very different scenario compared to what we witnessed over a decade and a half of Mike Ashley.

Significant investment in youth recruitment and the facilities and coaching is creating an exciting outlook for the future.

Saturday was yet another dominant league performance from the Newcastle United Under 18s

The young United stars brushing aside Burnley with a 3-0 home win.

Little Benton hosting the match and Alfie Seldon putting Newcastle in the lead midway through the first half, just before the break England Under 18s star Sam Alabi doubling the lead.

Alfie Hutchison getting the third and final goal with 16 minutes to go.

The Newcastle United Under 18s had 15 efforts on target as they overwhelmed the opposition, even had the luxury of Hutchison failing to add a fourth when the keeper saved his late penalty.

Yesterday’s league win means it is six victories in seven for the Newcastle United Under 18s with just one defeat (against Man U) and having scored 22 goals in the seven league games.

As you can see, NUFC have joined Manchester City at the top of the table in the Premier League North Under 18s table, Newcastle only behind on goal difference although they have played a game more than the two Manc sides, Man U now five points behind United.

Last season it was the two Manchester clubs and Newcastle United who dominated at Under 18 level and looking very likely to turn out the same this season.

These are the league finishes for the Newcastle Under 18s from the most recent previous five seasons:

2021/22 – Newcastle United Under 18s finished 14th of 14 with 17 points.
2022/23 – Newcastle United Under 18s finished 12th of 13 with 24 points
2023/24 – Newcastle United Under 18s finished 8th of 13 with 32 points.
2024/25 – Newcastle United Under 18s finished 5th of 13 with 35 points
2025/26 – Newcastle United Under 18s finished 3rd of 14 with 49 points

I know what is happening with the first team at any particular time will dominate our thoughts but the future at Newcastle United is very bright, exciting times  now at the Newcastle United Academy.

The Newcastle United Under 18s already have more points after seven games currently, than they got in the entire 2021/22 season when they last kicked off a campaign under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

It was always going to be a very long process for these current Newcastle United owners to build a proper professional top level set-up, to support the younger age groups.

However, we are now seeing real green shoots of progress, thanks to the much needed investment in coaching, facilities, scouting and bringing in the very best possible young players both locally and from further afield, across the UK and overseas.
