‘Travis Hunter Is Not Human,’ ‘Absolute Freak’ — NFL World Reacts to Jaguars Star’s ‘Diabolical’ Move That Tricked C.J. Stroud Into Throwing INT

Travis Hunter’s fourth-quarter interception of C.J. Stroud in the end zone on Sunday came in a game the Jacksonville Jaguars eventually lost 34-31 to the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium in London. It was also the first pick Stroud had thrown all season.

However, long after the game was done, one fan went back to the tape and saw a setup. The fan noted how Hunter “‘fake stumbles’ when undercutting a route to trick QBs into throwing the ball.”

What followed was reactions from the likes of ESPN NFL analyst Benjamin Solak, Jaguars beat reporter John Shipley, and football fans. So did Stroud simply miss the Jaguars’ two-way star, or did Hunter bait him into the throw?

How Travis Hunter’s End-Zone Interception Unfolded

The Texans carried a 31-21 lead into the fourth quarter. Then Hunter, who started at cornerback, made his mark on offense, catching a 7-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence with 11:26 left to cut the deficit to 31-28. He finished with four catches on four targets for 59 yards.

Houston answered on its very next possession with a 12-play, 63-yard march from its own 33 that reached deep into Jacksonville territory before Hunter picked off Stroud with 3:59 remaining.

It was the only interception the Texans’ quarterback threw on a day he went 24-for-34 for 312 yards and three touchdowns. Stroud ranked first in PFN’s NFL QB Impact Score with an 82.6 grade in Week 6.

The stop gave Jacksonville one more chance. Lawrence led a seven-play, 38-yard drive that ended in Cam Little’s 60-yard field goal, tying the game at 31 with 1:55 left. Ka’imi Fairbairn then won it for Houston with a 49-yarder as time expired.

So what exactly did the fan see on the replay? They wrote, Hunter “intentionally squats low and leans over looking off center to make it seem like he tripped or got caught slipping on a route.”

After going back to Sunday’s game, the fan added that “he did it to CJ Stroud on the EndZone interception and Stroud realizes what happened immediately.”

Reacting to the play, another fan put it bluntly: “sheesh that’s diabolical.”

ESPN’s Solak also weighed in with a reaction, writing: “He got me!” and also shared a clip in which he said, “It is preposterous athleticism. It is second overall pick athleticism that creates that interception.”

The ability to bait quarterbacks with subtle deception is a hallmark of great cornerbacks. Richard Sherman mastered that art in the past, often appearing to be out of position to tempt quarterbacks into making a throw for what would look like an opening.

But really, it was often an illusion, with his athleticism and long arms allowing him to close the gap and make a play on the ball.

Meanwhile, Shipley needed only one word: “alien.”

Carney was thinking along the same lines, writing, “What an absolute freak.”

And another fan went further: “Travis Hunter is at least as twice as good as you think he is.”

This season, Jacksonville has changed how it uses him. Hunter was mostly a receiver who also played some cornerback as a rookie. In 2026, he became a full-time cornerback, with receiver as a side role.

Through Week 6 of his second season, Hunter has two interceptions, tied for seventh in the NFL, along with six passes defended. On offense, he has six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. He also ranks 10th in PFN’s CB Impact Score with an 86.1 grade over the same span.

Sunday made Hunter the first player to record a receiving touchdown and an interception in the same game since Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins did so for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2002, also against the Texans.

By that count, it was just the fourth such game since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, including the playoffs. Keyshawn Johnson, in the 1998 playoffs, and Roy Green, in 1981, round out the list.
