Alphington score in stoppage time to beat Budleigh

A highly contentious stoppage-time goal deprived The Robins of taking at least a point in this Devon League encounter.

Alphington, who have been scoring goals for fun and sit at the top of the table with only one defeat all season, netted in “added-added” time, which only the match official seemed to be aware of.

The home side has aspirations on promotion at the end of this campaign and have been carrying out a number of building projects including the installation of floodlights.

Both defences were on top of their game during the first half, and the score was goalless at the break.

Budleigh’s best chance came with ten minutes left when Rohullah Mohammadi had a goal-bound effort blocked by the Alphington defence.

The home side’s winner came during protracted stoppage time when Harry Walford headed in from a free kick.

Budleigh’s Man of the Match Award went to goalkeeper Rudi Phillips for a number of good saves during the game.

This Saturday (October 24) Budleigh entertain Plymstock United in the Devon League Cup.

Kick off is at 2.30pm.
