Rashford returned to United ahead of the 2026/27 season after spending last term on loan at Barcelona. The Spanish giants declined to sign Rashford permanently, signing Anthony Gordon instead.

Rashford hasn’t yet made an impact for United this season across his eight appearances, and reports are indicating that he’ll leave the club in one of the next two windows, rather than see out his contract, which expires in 2028.

With Everton having been linked, we put the idea of Rashford signing to fans on TalkingPoints to gauge opinion.

What are your thoughts on a potential move for Marcus Rashford? 👀 Everton and Man United are said to be in talks over January move…

Fans have concerns about Everton moving for Rashford

Rashford signing for Everton would certainly raise eyebrows. While his form has been questionable in the last few years, there is no denying that he’s a huge name who has had success in the top-flight of English football.

But a number of fans on our TalkingPoints platform don’t feel this would be a good idea for the Toffees.

A number of people pointed out that Rashford is on huge wages. So any poor performances or periods of bad form would likely be pounced on very quickly by the supporters. He is thought to earn in excess of £300,000 per week.

Everton do already have one very high earner on the books in Jack Grealish, although it’s thought his parent club Manchester City are paying some of his wages.

What is Everton football a clinic for deteriorating footballers who are all on massive wages. It’s a horrible club to support

Not impressed at all the last thing we need is a misfit poser from too many clubs and a huge wage bill to boot!!! If TFG want to try and “Smooth” things over after the summer with a “So called statement signing” why not go all in and bring in Ronaldo too! 🤬

Don’t like it. Hasn’t got the work rate or attitude to thrive under Moyes

Quite possibly, Everton may have to lose a player or two to even afford a move and given the size of the squad at the moment that doesn’t feel very wise.

There were also some people suggesting that Rashford doesn’t have the best work-rate. David Moyes teams are built on players being hardworking and there are plenty of examples of Rashford trotting about and letting people go past him – a clip of him allowing Ross Barkley – playing for Luton at the time – to easily dribble past him went viral on social media a few years ago.

But there were some others who are on board.

But some back Rashford move

Rashford has drawn a lot of criticism over the last few years at United, with some of that being deserved. However, he has still produced some decent numbers.

He got 14 goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances for Barcelona last season, and in 2024/25, he scored 11 and made nine assists in 41 appearances for United.

The season before, he also managed a combined 14 goals and assists.

Everyone has seen what Rashford is capable of. The England international has great pace, and a ferocious shot when he really connects. He can also play on the left and through the middle.

He’s always been a goalscorer and right now that is what Everton desperately need. Thierno Barry has scored three goals in the Premier League, but missed 11 big chances so far. Surely a player like Rashford would have converted more of those chances.

I think he’s more than worth a shot. Would bring a lot of quality to the forward line

Let’s be honest, if Everton get the Barcelona Marcus Rashford, it’s a brilliant signing. But you just don’t know which version you’ll get

Rashford move would be risky, but it could be worth it

It’s quite a fascinating link because Rashford can be such a top player on his day and has qualities that a lot of teams would love to have. But his reputation has undoubtedly taken a bit of a hit in recent years. Perhaps some of that is down to United’s struggles as a collective, and that he’s been there for a lot of it.

There would be risk with this move. But the initial report doesn’t specify whether Everton are looking to get him on loan or buy him.

Assuming both options are on the table, perhaps a loan with an option to buy would suit Everton, as they wouldn’t be tied in if it didn’t work out. That, with United paying part of his wages, would be absolutely ideal. And given Rashford loved that Moyes called him into first-team training as a 16-year-old at United, maybe he’ll fancy the move.
