Michael Kim is one of the most consistent putters in professional golf.

In 912 attempts on the PGA Tour this season, Kim didn’t miss a single putt inside three feet. He ranked 16th in Strokes Gained: Putting and shot a 59 at the 3M Open this year after catching fire on the greens.

Kim often takes to social media to share insights into the professional game and how he runs his business. He recently posted about his putting practice, which has made him such a reliable performer with the flatstick.

Michael Kim shares putting practice routine

Kim’s accuracy inside three feet is something amateur golfers can only dream of, and you’d assume, as a professional, he spends hours obsessing over the tiny details of every short putt.

But in reality, no. Instead, Kim focuses on his overall technique and trusts that these three-footers are routine.

He posted to X, “Guess how much time I spend practicing putts inside 3ft?

“The answer is zero. Better use of my time elsewhere. Even if I miss 1 or 2, in the grand scheme of things, I don’t need to practice something I’m 99% accurate on.

“I do practice making sure I start putts online about 5-10min a day. Short putts are mostly about alignment and starting putts online and nothing else. So I do get some practice that way”.

If you focus on your putting alignment and technique, the short putts will start to come naturally to you. These short putts are more about confidence than technique.

14 PGA Tour players didn’t miss inside of three feet in 2026

Kim’s putting record this season is impressive, but he’s far from the only player to do it. 14 PGA Tour players didn’t miss inside of three feet this season; however, Kim took the most attempts of all of them.

Other notable names on the list include Matt Fitzpatrick, who took 771 attempts from that range this season; Robert MacIntyre, who had 731; and Daniel Berger, who took 603.

What is your favourite and least favourite club in the bag to hit?

Is there a club you will avoid hitting at all costs at the moment?

Interestingly, these aren’t necessarily the same players populating the top of the PGA Tour’s putting statistics. And this supports Kim’s larger point.

Putting from this range doesn’t necessarily correlate to putting from greater distances. It’s a different skill, and one that’s more about confidence in your putting stroke than anything else.
