Ryan Hampshire is determined to earn another Super League deal after making the most of his opportunity at Hull KR and showing he still has plenty to offer at the top level.
All-conquering Rovers head coach Willie Peters was keen to sign Hampshire permanently in April after an initial trial period in East Hull, adding his experiences from Wigan Warriors, Castleford Tigers, Leigh Leopards and Wakefield Trinity.
Hampshire, 31, finally got his chance back in Super League in May and seized it with both hands, impressing at both half-back and full-back as he deputised for Mikey Lewis, Tyrone May and Arthur Mourgue.
He helped Rovers secure victories over Wigan, Hull FC, Bradford, Castleford and Catalans, putting himself firmly in the shop window ahead of the 2027 campaign.
However, Hampshire was informed in August that his stay at Sewell Group Craven Park would not be extended under incoming head coach Nathan Cayless.
Despite that setback, he is determined to secure another Super League opportunity, convinced he is back to his best after putting his injury troubles behind him.
“I feel like I’ve got a lot still left to give in Super League,” Hampshire told Hull Live.
“I thought I played well this year. It was hard to get in the team at the start with what they did last year, but when I did, I thought it went well.
“I believe I’m still Super League ready. I feel good, probably the best I have in years.
“I feel like I put myself out there, and the coaches were happy with what I did - so I’m keen to continue playing in Super League.”
Hampshire’s latest Super League spell has offered a welcome change of fortunes after his previous stint at the top level was hampered by injuries, leaving him frustrated at being unable to show his true potential.
This time, he returned to full fitness and made the most of his opportunity with the Robins, enjoying his time under Peters and embracing the challenge of stepping into a successful side that claimed every trophy in 12 months.
“My first day was after Las Vegas, I went into review and it was really intense,” Hampshire said.
“It felt like it was straight into the deep end, but I really loved the group. The fans are really passionate, and I had a good time there.
“Willie Peters was really good. He’s really switched on and constantly thinking about how to get better. I really enjoyed my time under him, he’s a loyal guy and really wanted to help you.”
