Carl Starfelt says he is enjoying being back in Glasgow as Celta Vigo prepare to face Celtic at Parkhead.
Starfelt spent two seasons at Celtic after arriving under Ange Postecoglou and was part of the treble-winning side before leaving for La Liga in 2023.
He still has plenty of good memories from his time in Glasgow, and his return gives Celta a familiar voice inside the camp before a big European night.
Speaking to Mundo Celeste, Starfelt said: “I enjoy it a lot. I was here for two years and I had a great time and good memories.
“And also get to meet some of my old teammates and people around the team.
“So yeah, it’s fun and I’m happy. I’m happy I got to travel with the team to support and also to be back at the stadium.
“But no, I think it’s going to be fun.”
Celtic Park can still be a difficult venue for visiting sides, especially on European nights, and the Swede was clear about the passion around the club.
He said: “The people are really funny. They love football. They are so passionate about Celtic.
“So the atmosphere in the stadium is going to be great, as always.
“And the city, it’s nice. Now it’s a little bit cold.
“But for me, it’s okay because I’m from Sweden. So it’s nothing I bother about too much.”
Starfelt has already been spoken about in the build-up, with Celta boss Claudio Giraldez confirming he had asked the defender for insight into Celtic Park and his former club.
Starfelt played in enough big games in Glasgow to understand the noise, the pressure and the speed at which the crowd can shift momentum.
Celtic need that kind of night.
Martin O’Neill’s side are still looking for their first Europa League points of the campaign after defeats to Ferencvaros and Benfica.
The 7-1 win over Hearts gave Celtic a lift, but Celta Vigo will be a different test.
Starfelt may be watching from the stands rather than defending in the box, but his return still gives the night an added emotional edge.
