The full route for the Tour de France’s historic visit to Liverpool in 2027 has been revealed. The Liverpool leg will see the peloton race from the Cumbrian town of Keswick through Lancashire, eventually travelling through Knowsley and St Helens, before finishing the stage in a super sprint along Liverpool’s waterfront.

The Tour de France will make only its fifth visit to Britain, beginning its three-week journey in Edinburgh on Friday, July 2, with three stages taking riders through Scotland, north-west England and Wales.

Taking place on Saturday, July 3, 2027, stage two of the men's race is expected to draw huge crowds to the Liverpool City Region.

Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram said: “The Tour de France is one of the greatest sporting spectacles on the planet. For three weeks, millions of people around the world will be glued to the action, watching the best cyclists on earth push themselves to the absolute limit. And next summer, that spectacle is coming right to our doorstep.

“We’re a region that lives and breathes sport, and we know a thing or two about putting on a show. From the streets of St Helens and Huyton to the finish on our iconic waterfront, this is going to be a special moment for everyone who lives here, and a chance to be part of sporting history.

“I hope seeing these incredible athletes in action inspires a new generation to get on their bikes, give cycling a go and discover what they can achieve. The race might only be here for a day, but the impact it can have on our region could last for years.”

Paul Bush, managing director, Grand Départ GB 2027, added: “To have both the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift starting in Britain next summer is extraordinary, and a historic moment. These routes showcase what a spectacular stage Scotland, England and Wales will provide.”
