‘I’m Very Defeated,’ ‘Can’t Buy a Win’ – Warriors Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Reflects on 0-3 Start to NBA Season Amid Steve Kerr Criticism

The Golden State Warriors have not had the start they were hoping for in the 2026-27 NBA season. On Saturday night, they suffered their third consecutive loss after falling 131-122 to the Phoenix Suns.

With the Warriors now sitting at 0-3, questions are already being raised about Steve Kerr and his team’s performance.

Following the defeat, Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg shared his thoughts on the difficult start and admitted that losing three straight games has been frustrating.

After the game, NBA reporter Duane Rankin asked Lendeborg what he had learned from his first three games with the Warriors.

The rookie admitted that he was beginning to understand just how difficult it is to win games in the NBA. The 24-year-old also expressed his disappointment with the team’s current situation, saying that he felt very defeated after the latest loss.

“It’s tough in the NBA to win. It’s like, in college, you’ll dwell over the loss for a little while. Like, right now, I’m very defeated. I feel like we can’t buy a win for nothing, but we have a game in two days. So I just got to try to flush it out of my system.”

“Maybe dwell for an hour or so and just worry about the next. So, I mean, that’s something I definitely have to get adjusted with, and just figuring out ways to be effective everywhere else,” Lendeborg said post-game.

However, Lendeborg certainly did his part to help the Warriors on Saturday night. He finished with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 block in 36 minutes. The rookie shot 9-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-11 from the 3-point range.

It was the first 20-point regular-season game of Lendeborg’s NBA career, and it came at a time when Golden State needed someone to step up. The Warriors were playing without several important players, including Stephen Curry.

Despite Lendeborg leading the Warriors in scoring on Saturday night, Kerr was not entirely satisfied with the rookie’s performance. While his offensive contribution was impressive, Kerr criticized Lendeborg’s defense after the game.

“His [Lendeborg’s] weak-side awareness right now is very poor. And with his size, he should be one of our best defenders at the rim. Right now, he’s unaware on the weak side, and that’s an area he really has to improve,” Kerr said during his postgame press conference.

If we look at the game itself, the Warriors actually started well. They led by 3 points after the first quarter. Then the scoring slowed down a bit in the second quarter, and by halftime they were trailing by 3 points. Moreover, the Suns scored 74 points after the break, and the Warriors ultimately lost the game.

The Warriors do not have much time to feel sorry for themselves. They now get ready for their next game against the Denver Nuggets on Monday.
