The NFL’s international series has now completed its trip to the United Kingdom with the Houston Texans’ win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

Expanding the brand across the globe has not gone down well with all NFL fans as more and more games are being taken away from US soil to be showcased across the world. This weekend will see the New Orleans Saints take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Paris, France.

That will not be the end of the international series with games in Madrid, Spain, and Munich, Germany still to be played over the coming weeks. For a lot of fans, there is a feeling that too many games are now being played away from the United States.

Panthers stunned Philly, the Texans won it with 3 seconds left and the Browns beat Baltimore 13-10. Which Week 6 result shocked you most? 👇

However, the number could continue to rise over the coming years and one NFL executive has confirmed they are exploring new markets to continue the growth of the sport.

NFL executive confirms international expansion plans despite fan frustration

The NFL has already sent games across the globe this season to countries like Brazil and Australia. There are still some untapped markets as far as the NFL is concerned, though, which indicates more games could be lost abroad.

“We feel confident that we would not have any impact on the broader resources needed. That’s always top of mind for us, and we feel confident that we wouldn’t be depleting resources in a negative way around this game,” Peter O’Reilly said on behalf of the NFL.

“We like continuity, but we are looking at new regions, and Asia would be one of them.”

The NFL will play nine games abroad this season and there is already the possibility that 10 could be played next season after approval from the league has already been granted. Japan has already been mentioned as a potential landing spot for a future game.

Worldwide growth does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon but these comments from O’Reilly will surely spark the question of how far the NFL is willing to go? In recent seasons the number of games being played away from the US has grown considerably and shows no sign of stopping.
