There's plenty to like from UNC's first preseason basketball game. In the first game of head coach Michael Malone's collegiate coaching career, North Carolina utilized a balanced scoring attack and second-half defense en route to a 88-70, come-from-behind win vs USC.

The Tar Heels continue their 3-game preseason slate this coming weekend, traveling to the Midwest for a 5 p.m. matchup vs. Indiana on Sunday, October 18. As opposed to playing at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, UNC will face the Hoosiers inside Indianapolis' Gainbridge Field House, home of the Indiana Pacers.

Indiana, once an college basketball contender under legendary head coach Bob Knight, quickly fell into mediocrity after Tom Crean departed for Georgia. The Hoosiers hired Darren DeVries away from West Virginia and, despite finishing with an overall winning record for the fifth straight season, their NCAA Tournament drought extended to three years.

If Indiana's first preseason matchup is any indication of future success, it's on the right track. The Hoosiers pulled away from in-state rival Butler last Sunday, dominating 96-68 behind four stars in double figures.

North Carolina has just one game under its belt, but fans quickly got the idea of how beneficial a deeper, balanced roster will be come regular season time. Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson scored a career-high 25 points vs. the Trojans, Isaiah Denis showed how special he can be running the offense and, amongst many other positives, freshman Maximo Adams has breakout star written all over him.
