Lewis Koumas repaid the faith of Andoni Iraola by scoring his first goal of what is becoming a breakthrough season as Liverpool beat LASK 6-3 on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old has quickly become a favourite of the new coach, and having made it back-to-back starts having been named on the teamsheet for his Champions League debut, Koumas duly scored the Reds’ sixth of the night.
That added to the assist he claimed for Bradley Barcola’s first ever Liverpool goal, and in scoring one goal and laying on another, Koumas has now matched Steven Gerrard in the Champions League for the Reds.

Liverpool beat LASK 6-3 and Barcola scored his first career hat-trick! 🤯 What were your main takeaways? 👀 Is it a worry to concede three?
As a local boy coming through the Liverpool academy, there truly is nobody better to emulate at Anfield than Gerrard.
And as Opta noted after Koumas scored and assisted on Wednesday, the forward has now done that only eight games into his Liverpool career.
After Gerrard, the youngster is only the second Liverpool player aged 21 or under to score and assist in a Champions League match.
Gerrard did it against Dynamo Kyiv 25 years ago in 2001, also aged 21, and Koumas has now added his name to an incredibly exclusive list.
That will be the icing on the cake for the Welshman, who, with Alexander Isak still a doubt for Saturday’s clash with Brentford, may just have cemented his place leading the line for Liverpool.
