The centre-back admitted the dressing room was frustrated after the Reds let slip a 1-0 lead at home to West Brom who scored two late goals to win 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Phil Parkinson's side are back at The Racecourse tomorrow when bottom of the table Preston North End are the visitors and Hyam says it's a game that the Reds must take three points from.
"The next one's on Saturday, it's at home, and we need to win," he said.
"We need to put that pressure on ourselves to get the win.
"It's obviously not ideal going into it off a loss at home. We wanted maximum points looking at two home games in a row in a short space of time.
"We need to put in a good performance to get a win.
"That's the standards we set for ourselves, isn't it? We don't technically need a win, but we do need a win, if you know what I mean?
"We need to win at home, especially. We haven't got enough points here so far, and it really needs to become a fortress for us."
Hyam was particularly frustrated by the manner of the defeat, with Kieffer Moore giving Wrexham a 64th minute lead with a stunning strike before a late collapse undid their hard work.
"It is very disappointing," he said. "We've spoken in there about we've done so well for 70 minutes of the game and just to throw it away at the end at home is really frustrating.
"There's a lot of experience on the pitch and one-nil should have been enough.
"If you can't get the second goal, which is not always the case, it should have been enough to keep hold of the three points but it wasn't to be.
"I'm angry, I'm frustrated and we all are in there."
Hyam admits Wrexham have not reached the defensive standards they set during last season's play-off push and every player must take responsibility.
"We set the standard so high that if you look at last season, even if you're not playing well, we were resolute and hard to score against but we've been a little bit too easy to score against this season," he said.
"It hurts personally. I pride myself on keeping clean sheets and being tough to beat and tough to score against, but everyone of us needs to pluck up some character and get the win on Saturday."
Hyam reserved special praise for top scorer Moore, whose fourth goal of the season put the Reds in control.
"An absolutely amazing goal. I thought Kieffer was outstanding," he added.
"All parts of his game; his hold up play, his threat from every set piece we had.
"That's just not enough sometimes, we've all got to play well to get anything in this league
"That could have been enough, should have been enough, but it wasn't to be."
