The seed favorites generally won in round three of the 46th Chess Olympiad 2026, with two notable exceptions on the top 50 boards. 79th seed Kyrgyzstan beat 31st seed Brazil 2.5-1.5, while 50th seed Singapore upset 21st seed Norway with the same score. Australia nearly tied the Netherlands, but in our Game of the Day, GM Anish Giri squeezed water from stone in an endgame against GM Bobby Cheng to push his team through.
GM Koneru Humpy got revenge over IM Stavroula Tsolakidou for losing a crucial game a week ago in the Global Chess League final as India beat Greece 3.5-0.5 in round three of the 2026 FIDE Women's Chess Olympiad. Favorites Kazakhstan, China, and USA were among the teams to march on with wins, but 6th seed Ukraine crashed to a 3-1 loss to 38th seed Argentina, while 8th seed France was also taken down by 30th seed Iran.
