Derek McInnes' side were held in the City of Discovery after Callum Jones' second-half leveller cancelled out a stunner by Nicolas Raskin.
In the first half, as Rangers sought an early breakthrough, Minsu Kim saw his effort from the edge of the box strike Dundee defender Ryan Astley's arm.
Despite communication with VAR, not spot-kick was given. As McFadden explained on commentary, it was the right call.
He said, "It's a lovely knock down from Gassama. He did catch it well, Minsu Kim. And it did come off Ryan Astley's arm as the shot goes in towards goal.
"It bounces up off the ground after hitting his boot. Correct decision there."

Speaking after the match, Rangers manager Derek McInnes cast his verdict on the result and performance.
"I thought Dundee were good value.I think Dundee will be a good team this season," McInnes said.
"I think they'll cause teams problems. But once we corrected a few things at half-time, I thought we were very good.
"But the disappointment is clear, because we came here to win and we haven't done that."
Rangers return to action next Saturday when they host St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.
