Nick Woltemade faces crunch six-months - but there may be no way back at Newcastle United

The German striker is currently on loan at Italian giants Juventus

Nick Woltemade's Newcastle United career may already be over, with the striker's struggles continuing in Italy.

The German striker moved to Juventus on loan at the end of the summer transfer window, but has only scored two goals for the Italian giants, both in the Europa League.

While he netted his first from open play against Celta Vigo last week, he is yet to open his account in Serie A for Juve, and faces an unsure future at Newcastle.

New head coach Matthias Jaissle gave the green light to a loan move when he made it clear he would not be a regular starter in his side.

Woltemade struggled for form and goals in the second half of last season, after signing from Stuttgart for £69m in 2025, and failed to persuade Jaissle that anything would change this term.

Former Newcastle midfielder Didi Hamann has kept close tabs on his fellow countryman, but feels that he if he doesn't shine in Italy, it's unlikely he will be able to resurrect his Premier League career.

“I’m not sure there is much of a way back to Newcastle for Nick Woltemade at the moment," he told Betpack.

"If you believe reports coming out of Italy, he’s playing a very rotational role at Juventus, which is exactly what Newcastle won’t be looking for.

"Woltemade went to the Serie A on loan to prove himself and show Newcastle what they are missing, and he isn’t doing that at the moment.

“He’s been sent out there to get some confidence and score goals, but if he isn’t cutting it at Juventus in the Serie A then I can’t see much point in Newcastle bringing him back.

"The Premier League is a much tougher league than the Italian league, and Newcastle will be expecting much more from him than what he’s showing.

"The next seven or eight months are key for his future, but if he fails, Newcastle will just loan him out again next summer.”
