I’d keep faith with Sinisalo, pair Trusty with Scales and start Jota as Celtic look for a response against Hearts.
If I were picking Celtic’s team to face Hearts tomorrow, I would make one big call in attack: Kasper Høgh starts on the bench.
That is not me writing him off. I hope he rediscovers his confidence and becomes the goalscorer Celtic need. But right now, I would pick the players who look most likely to give Hearts problems.
Sinisalo had a difficult night against Benfica, but I would still choose him over Sam Johnstone. Johnstone did not convince me in the game at Ibrox against Rangers, and I would rather stick with Sinisalo for this test.
Donovan has done nothing to deserve being dropped at right-back. My concern is whether he can keep up his energy for the full match. He has looked as if he can tire after 60 or 70 minutes, so Martin O’Neill may need a plan from the bench if that happens.
At centre-half, I would go with Trusty and Scales. Dane Murray has potential, but there have been too many mistakes for me to feel comfortable starting him here. Trusty and Scales are the more experienced pairing, and I would trust them to give Celtic a steadier base.
Tierney is a straightforward choice at left-back. He is reliable, he is coming into form and he remains one of Celtic’s best players. With Jota ahead of him, that left side could become a real threat. The two of them have the quality to stretch Hearts and create chances.
McGregor stays in my side because he is captain and Celtic do not have an obvious replacement for him. He may be going through a patchy spell, but I would still want him leading the team.
If Mika Baur is unavailable, Oxlade-Chamberlain should start beside him. If Baur is passed fit, I would play him instead. Nygren gets the advanced midfield role because he carries a goal threat and is always willing to get forward.
I would put Durán through the middle, with Hassan on the right and Jota on the left. Hassan can beat defenders, while Jota brings quality and imagination. Høgh should be a substitute for now, with a chance to respond when he comes on.
I would also want Callum Osmand and Shim Mheuka involved from the bench. Both have impressed me, and Mheuka looks like someone who could make an impact if he gets the opportunity.
That is my Celtic starting eleven: a settled defence, a balanced midfield and an attack chosen for the threat it can carry against Hearts.
